The artist about this work

Her Pose is part of my Head Held High series, a collection through which I explore courage, beauty, identity, and cultural pride.

In this painting, her upright stance becomes a quiet expression of courage. She stands tall with her head held high, carrying herself with a sense of confidence and self-possession. Her posture speaks of a woman who knows her worth and is unafraid to take up space.

Her melanated skin celebrates beauty in its richness and depth, embracing the natural elegance of Black identity. The way she is dressed pays homage to culture and heritage, allowing tradition to become part of her strength and self-expression.

Through Her Pose, I celebrate the courage to stand tall, the beauty of melanated skin, and the power of culture to shape and affirm who we are. She does not need to speak to be heard, her presence says it all.
